Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Buller
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Buller is a mentoring programme that connects children or a young person with an adult in our community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is based on the idea that a friendship with an adult can provide support for a child or young person to grow and develop in a positive way.
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches an adult volunteer with a child or young person between the age of 8 and 15. The adult volunteer then seeks to become a mentor for the young person by spending two – three hours together each week – or a total of 8-12 hours a month.
A mentor spends informal time with a child or young person. This could be, for example, walking dogs on the beach, building sand castles, going fishing, baking, playing a game, tossing a Frisbee, including the young person in activities you are already doing - the list is endless. We also have planned outings and activities which includes all the mentors and their young person.
